What is the relationship between human health and zoning policy?
Of lead contaminated water and incarceration rates?
Of air quality and race?

The Nature of Injustice: Confronting Race, Class, and Gender in the Fight for Environmental Justice will feature a full day program on the effects of discriminatory policies on human health as well as the interventions to remedy them. After each panel, attendees are invited to participate in facilitated discussions to consider innovative ways to combat environmental injustice.

Environmental justice presents critical issues of human health that impact communities of color, immigrant communities, and low income communities at a disproportionate rate. We continue to see this negative cycle play out across the nation from the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina to the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

Scheduled for October 27th, the "Nature of Injustice" will be co-hosted by the Environmental Law Society, Black Law Students Association, and the National Lawyers Guild. Together, our student groups are committed to bringing a diverse, engaging program to the Law Center by facilitating a multidisciplinary dialogue that includes academics, litigators, policy makers, and activists.

This symposium will serve as a place to connect different perspectives and to examine the systemic issues that link environmental burdens to discriminatory development patterns & disproportionate health impacts.

The program will also be made available to universities and community organizations nation wide by live-steaming. Contact thenatureofinjustice@gmail.com for more information.
